I just finished Balance Matters: Rethinking Estrogen, Reclaiming Progesterone, Restoring Hormonal Stability by Kitty Martone, and I’m genuinely excited to write this review. If you’re a woman in perimenopause, menopause, or anyone feeling like your hormones are running the show (and not in a good way), this book is a must-read.
Kitty Martone brings nearly two decades of real-world experience and cuts through the noise with a refreshingly honest take: estrogen isn’t the lone hero we’ve been told it is, and menopause isn’t simply a “deficiency” that needs fixing with replacement hormones. Instead, she shines a light on the often-overlooked power of progesterone, metabolism, and the body’s natural detox systems to create true hormonal balance. What I loved most is how she blends solid science with practical, lived-experience advice—no jargon-heavy lectures, just clear explanations and actionable insights that finally make sense of what’s happening in your body.
This isn’t another “take this pill” book. It’s a smart, empowering framework that shifts the focus from symptom-chasing to understanding and restoring how your body is designed to work. I found myself highlighting page after page and thinking, “Why hasn’t anyone explained it like this before?”
Whether you’re just starting to notice changes or you’ve been struggling for years, Balance Matters gives you the tools and perspective to feel in control again. It’s well-written, hopeful, and incredibly validating. I’ve already recommended it to my friends and plan to reread sections as I put the ideas into practice.
If you’re tired of the same old hormone conversation, this book is the fresh start you’ve been waiting for. Highly, highly recommend—especially if you’ve read Kitty’s The 4-Week Gut Health Plan and want the next level of whole-body wisdom. Five stars all the way!
(Posted right after finishing on my Kindle—worth every penny.)
